Background
Blood donation is a simple act of kindness that can make the difference between life and death for someone in need. Every unit of donated blood has the potential to save multiple lives and plays a vital role in supporting emergency care, surgeries, maternal health, and the treatment of many serious medical conditions.
With the objective of promoting voluntary blood donation and strengthening community awareness, Friends of Nano and Presentation Convent Higher Secondary School, Rajbagh, Srinagar, in collaboration with RehabNation Healthcare Foundation of India (RHFI) and Government LD Hospital, Srinagar, organized a Voluntary Blood Donation Camp on 08 June 2026.
The initiative brought together students, parents, school staff, alumni, volunteers, and members of the local community, creating an opportunity for people from different walks of life to contribute towards a common humanitarian cause.
Objectives
The Blood Donation Camp was organized to:
Promote voluntary and regular blood donation. 2. Raise awareness about the importance and benefits of blood donation. 3. Encourage community participation in humanitarian initiatives. 4. Support Government LD Hospital in maintaining adequate blood reserves. 5. Strengthen collaboration between educational institutions, healthcare providers, and civil society organizations.
Activities Conducted
The following activities were carried out as part of the programme:
Planning and coordination with partner organizations, pre-event awareness and donor mobilization campaign, community outreach through digital and printed awareness materials, registration and medical screening of prospective donors, safe blood collection by the medical team from Government LD Hospital, post-donation care and refreshments for donors, volunteer coordination and donor support throughout the event, photography, videography, and event documentation, social media awareness and public outreach.
Participation
The Blood Donation Camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from Parents, Local residents, Representatives of collaborating organizations and School staff members
A dedicated team of doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians, and support staff from Government LD Hospital ensured that donor screening, blood collection, and post-donation care were conducted safely and in accordance with established medical protocols.
Key Achievement
The collection of 26 units of blood will contribute towards meeting the transfusion needs of patients requiring emergency and life-saving medical care. Through blood component separation, these donations have the potential to benefit many more patients across different medical specialties.
Impact
The programme created a positive and lasting impact by raising awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation among students, staff, and the wider community. It encouraged people to come forward, help others, and understand that a simple act of donating blood can make a real difference in someone’s life.
